Artists Of The World Unite ( Statesman / paper ) He’s quite a guy! Whether he’s doing what he does best-dipping into his reservoir of sheer genius and unmatched creative prowess to continuously innovate, invent, inspire and imbibe or rubbing shoulders with heads of state, noted Jordanian artist, architect and inventor Abed Malhas is a man easy within himself. Not surprisingly so-the recipient of 9 international awards which include the WIPO(World Intellectual Property Organization) Golden Medal,Switzerland,OMPP (Prix de L’Organization Mondiale de la Presse Periodique), Germany, King Hussein Officer Golden Medal, Jordan and King of Belgium Officer, Belgium., Mr. Malhas has carved a niche for himself in the world of aesthetic Endeavour. Yet, as he soars on the gilded wings of success,Mr. Malhas comes through as a man who has his feet planted firmly on the ground. The heady mix of fame and good fortune has not detracted his vision to serve humanity in the best possible way that he can – through his works of art. Indeed, it is a diktat that he swears by as he paints his way through the various labyrinths and mysteries of the world- that art should serve as a conscience for the whole of humanity and not be a mere piece of décor that goes unnoticed when its novelty has worn of. That simple living and high thinking is Mr. Malhas mantra regarding life is ably demonstrated in the Herculean mission that he has undertaken to – and will – achieve. In his bid to serve mankind, Mr. Malhas calls all artists of the world, great or small, to join him in his efforts to stage an Art Olympic. To Abed Malhas, an artist is not an artist who manages to sell innumerable paintings or someone who has attended the best of art schools- he aptly points out the case of Van Gogh who achieved his pinnacle of fame posthumously- but an individual who wishes to express creatively in tangible form the essence of his/her thought and emotion locked up within the soul. Indeed, it may only be said that great minds think alike as Mr. Malhas points out the that the Olympic Games, the brainchild of Baron de Coubertin, held art competitions from 1912-1948 which were then discontinued as the participating artists were professional in spirit while Olympic participants were required to be amateurs. Thus, one may state that Mr. Malhas is proposing a resurgence of Coubertin’s dream- the only difference being that unlike in the Olympic Games, artists shall be able to paint anything they want that will enhance the world community at large and not be limited to sport related matters only. Another issue of the day close to Mr. Malhas heart is the plight of children the world around. He feel that its children are the best and most precious resource a nation has to offer to the world and a proper initiation into adulthood by stressing on the overall development of children and the youth of today is essential in the formation of a world society which will not destroy, desecrate or devastate for the children are the future. To this end he proposes to garner global support to move the Nobel Prize Committee to establish a Nobel Prize for Children similar to the World Children’s Prize (commonly known a s the Children’s Nobel) but incepted and formally mandated along the strain of thought of Alfred Noble. Mr. Malhas points out the growing incidence of violence, broken homes, substance abuse – the list of evil is endless- that children today face and purports that by giving the youth of the world the something to aspire towards- the Nobel Prize, in this instance-the positive side of each child’s personality will be nurtured- making him or her in turn a well-turned out mature individual ready to serve- and not annihilate- the world society. To this end, Abed Malhas proposes CASA as a place to begin. CASA, short for Care and Share Art , proposes to bring together the work of artists from all countries in the World on a common platform in a moving art exhibition which has been proposed to commence at the Louvre. The proceeds, along with sponsor money and donations- Mr. Malhas has left no stone unturned in connecting with charitable institutes and the like-will go towards the betterment of society , to the underprivileged and the downtrodden of the world. Of course, many may discourse about the negative effect of such positive globalization on art and culture. Mr. Malhas is quick to reiterate the sentiment of the Mahatma by quoting him:” I do not want my house to be rounded by walls and my windows to be closed to other cultures. I wish to become familiar with the culture of lands as much as possible but I will not permit them to affect me or shake me from my own status.” In view of this, it is significant that Mr. Malhas is a proponent of dynamic art and feels that the effect of positive globalization on art is dual for without native or national art there can be no globalization and without globalization there can be no unity in the world today. Artists of the world unite!A list of countries that are participating in Mr. Malhas’s mission along with all artists who have so far lent solidarity to the movement is at member list .
